With its picturesque setting, it is no wonder that people flock to Old Poway Park for a picnic or to ride on the train that loops around the park. However, there is much more to Old Poway Park. Discover how to turn an ordinary day into an adventure with something for the whole family to enjoy.

Old Poway Park celebrates life in California during the 1800s and early 1900s, a time of great change and discovery. Volunteers at the Nelson House and Heritage Museum are on hand most weekends to answer questions and give visitors a peek into life during the turn of the 20th century. There are even live demonstrations at the Overshiners Blacksmith Shop every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month.

On Saturday mornings, Old Poway Park is the place to find fresh produce, flowers and much more at the Farmer’s Market. Handmade arts and crafts are featured at the Boardwalk Craft Market, located on the boardwalk surrounding the Heritage Museum.

A new addition to Old Poway Park, Veteran’s Park, was dedicated on November 11, 2010 and is a beautiful tribute to past, present and future veterans. Visitors can become a permanent part of the tribute by purchasing a tile on the Veteran’s Wall of Honor.

Of course, no visit to Old Poway Park would be complete without taking a ride on the 1907 Baldwin Steam Locomotive or the 1894 Los Angeles Trolley Car. Kids and adults alike enjoy the half-mile loop around the park buildings and picnic areas.

For those who want to learn more about life in Poway and its surrounding areas, historical tours of Old Poway Park can be scheduled. These tours meet the Poway Unified School District’s curriculum for local history. Special tours are given during September’s Rendezvous in Poway, a four-day living history event.

Old Poway Park is not only home to public events, such as the Old-Fashioned Fourth of July and the Train Song Festival – it is also the chosen location for many private events such as weddings and family reunions.
